Why The Easy Speaking Programme?
Like most people, I have witnessed speakers with varying degrees of facility and confidence when speaking. Public speaking is one of the most exposing activities we have to do, and I’m not just talking about standing up in front of a group or on stage. Anxiety around public speaking can hit people when introducing themselves at a workshop, wanting to or being expected to contribute at a meeting and even when on a ward round at a hospital.
Over the years, clients have come to me who not only suffer extreme panic from the moment they are told they will be doing a presentation, but also when they have given up university studies, are thinking of not going for the job they have trained for and indeed, have foregone promotion because of it.
This is a terrible shame.
Someone can come to me with these anxieties and we can dispatch them in short order using hypnotherapy and Integral Eye Movement Therapy.
With the “Easy Speaking” programme though, I wanted to go further. I wanted not only to eradicate a person’s fear around public speaking, but also to identify how they want to show up when they have to speak in front of others.
Many people will identify that as just being relaxed and when the fear is gone, a relaxed approach will definitely take its place. But what if we really got into some detail about the nature of that relaxation, what it would be for you to really feel relaxed (or whatever else you want) when speaking?
We go into the way you want to show up in some detail. I will often use questions from a protocol known as Clean Language to do this asking questions such as “…and that’s relaxation (or whatever) like what?” and “what happens just before….?”
In this way, we dig down and really identify what you want then you can embody those qualities. It’s your mode of doing it and the how flows out of you naturally and it feels right. Then we can bed it down more deeply using hypnotherapy. In this way, this way of being becomes available to you when speaking.
Many people have someone whose way of presenting or being in front of a group they particularly admire, and we can bring these qualities out in you too.
Developing the kinds of attributes you want to be showing can add an interesting element to your public speaking delivery.
Anyone who wants to deal with their fear of public speaking and get to the point where it feels like just another activity they have to do, can benefit from this programme. You might particularly want to consider it however if these apply to you:
You speak relatively frequently and you want to feel even more confident doing so and even enjoy it
You want to become a more engaging speaker
You are aiming for a position where you will have to present more and want to be noted for your facility with speaking
You want to bring out the best in yourself, the qualities you already have that you would like to shine through when you speak
You want to be well-viewed by your staff and demonstrate ease with presenting
You think it will facilitate taking on new customers or clients because you present yourself in a way that is confident and easy.
